  • Anything to know about 2007 model year?

    Hi again,
Have found a potentially nice 07 FX HO as a possibility for my father in law. Is there anything specific to that model or year I should know? Looking to buy a well maintained freshwater ski, and it will then live in rack storage in the Palm Beach area. 80% ICW, 20% ocean use. There's s pretty good amount of larger boat traffic which can make the intercoastal waterway a bit choppy.

    Thanks for your replies.

There was a recall to upgrade some cooling hoses & clamps on 07 FX's..........a few ski's were known to have a hose pop off & flood the hull.......... should be documented on a well looked after ski if the work was carried out.

Thanks for that info, volltrex. Am I correct in saying this is the year before nano excel becomes the hull material?

Yes you are correct ......2007 FXHO Hull was SMC. I used to have one.......still miss it sometimes...decent performance & great fuel consumption for cruising.....You can get 120+ miles out of a tank if you need to in good conditions!

I like the hull 04-08... as I run a highly modified 05 FXHO. Yes, heavier than today's hulls, yet it takes the rough chop like a boss, so I use it for fishing generally.

That said, an 07 will have an MR1 motor, not the current 1.8L motor. The issue is not that a 1.8L better than the former, rather that the MR1 has been cloned by non-Yamaha builders. Unfortunately, these clones and remans have a poor longevity threshold for a multitude of reasons. So the very 1st thing I would do is see if the motor is original Yamaha or not.
Next, the jet pump and impeller.
If you are not savvy enough to spot a MR1 clone, I'd have the ski professionally inspected.

MR-1/1.8L 2005 "hull-swap", thru-hull exhaust with custom baffle-chamber, ribbon-delete, R&D Pro Comp filter, APE MCCT swap, Garmin 44dv w/ thru ride plate transducer, Candoo-speedo, YDS, ATV mid-height bars OID grips billet trigger, thermostat pisser mod, 1100GPH bilge pump, air-cooled mosfet reg/rec, switched dual LiFePO4 batteries, Pump seal kit, Solas, anti-cavi cone, siphon-delete, water-flag valve, stereo system, VHF radio, DYI fishing rack
