  • Best way to drain fuel from a 2019 FX HO waverunner?

Can fuel be siphoned out from the fuel tank? Will this potentially hurt something?
Looking for suggestions to get fuel out with out burning fuel while driving.

How empty do you need to get the tank?

Do you need it effectively dry inside, zero fuel in the bottom?

Siphoning will not hurt anything but it can be tricky to get the siphon down the fill hose. If you remove the fuel filler tube from the tank then it is quite direct to use a siphon/suction extraction.

A few years ago I made a manual fuel pump control. Combined with an inline fuel connector for the factory fuel feed to the engine it was easy to run the fuel pump and flow the fuel into an external fuel container.

Only difficult aspect was sourcing the specific electrical connector to connect to the factory wiring. And the inline fuel hose connection to mate with the factory hose end.

Facet makes 12 VDC electric fuel pumps that work well for draining fuel tanks. They have several that will lift fuel as much as 50 inches. I've found the most difficult thing is that the hose will tend to curl up inside the tank. This makes it hard to reach the bottom of the tank unless you repeatedly straighten it or attach it to a rod to hold it straight. Be gentle with it so you don't damage the filter on the pickup. I rigged mine up with battery clips so the PWC battery can power it.

Facet pumps are available from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catal...?clickkey=9133 Scroll to the bottom of the page to see performance specs for various models.

When we go on a long cruise, I carry the pump with me so I can transfer fuel from one 'Ski to another in the event of a breakdown.

I've fed the fuel pump relay with constant power and extended the hose after taking it off of the fuel rail. Only if you're confident with the electrical I would recommend this.

Just speculating, but he may be trying to sell it to someone on a different island. To ship it between islands we need to drain our tanks to 1/4 tank. This goes for any ski as well as general vehicles.

Mahalo for the suggestions, gonna disconnect the fuel filler hose at the tank and siphon. Gotta get it down to 1/4 tank or less.
Sending the ski to Oahu for warranty work, only dealer in the state is there.
            Touch screen doesn’t work.
