I noticed several guys made use of a 3 or 4 degree keyway to advance their timing. Is there a downside to this ? I heard that you change your ski so as not to beable to continue use as a rec-ski .... is this the case?

no down side... we are all running keyways on EFI skis

most applications require super unleaded and fuel controller

77.6 on Garmin, perfect conditions....Too fat on the carbs..plus the prop is still a bit too steep...
The mad scientist (LT1GMC) will help me hit 80+

                        Nice! What are your mods?

I was wondering what a stock 1200cc engine and original carb can do.

I am modded to the hilt.
1390 big bore top end, ported by Lowell, installed by LT1GMC. Head is modded to 155 (I think?) psi, 93 Octane
                          RIVA gas power valves
2nd fuel pump to prevent leaning out
                          155 carb jetting
16/22 Solas prop, tweaked by Impros (can't remember setback right now)
                          R&D 1200 Grate
catalytic converter removed, D plate installed
Jim's rideplate, both plate and tabs shimmed for choppy water.
                          pump/tunnel reinforcement
rear seat cutouts for better ventilation
cut front plastic under silver hood, again for ventilation
SHO steering nozzle, trued to perfect circle

So, basically everything but race gas, triple pipes, and a few other small things.
I didn't get much lake time last summer (moved to a new house) so I didn't tach it, but I think it needs to be jetted down bit...I think I can still get 80 with the mods I have.

As for a stock 1200, you can easily get 65+ with a few minor mods. An aftermarket intake grate is a must. A 13/19 Solas prop was what I had on mine when it was "motor" stock, and it ran 65 and hung with the big boys at the time, in 2010. Just look at the stickys at the top for more info. There are tons of tricks to get more speed without blowing the budget. I spun a ring and ruined the entire top and bottom end, so I went all out on the rebuild.

77.7 on Garmin...ideal conditions. Still need to tach it and see where the prop is. Didn't get to last year bc we weren't at the lake much.

I got 72 on gps on my stock 2000 1200r.. it was on the trailer though lol.. does 61.5 seems low for a stock gpr? I weigh 230lbs and no superman.
Fixing to send my carbs to WFO for some jets and mods. Probably go with flame arrestors.. I think the impeller needs replacing.. I will get some pics and see what you guys think.
