High Temp Sensor, Ski Won't Start, 2003 XLT1200

Hi guys, I'm visiting my father down in Florida and he has a 2003 XLT1200. It ran great last time I was here and he uses it at least once a month.

I went to start it today and the hi-temp sensor starts beeping and after 5 seconds it cuts off. It then takes about another 5 seconds for it to allow me to start it again. It has a D-Plate so the cat definitely didn't get sucked into the exhaust.

Any idea what this is and why it won't let me start it?

Also, any recommendations for a mechanic in Fort Myers Florida??

After doing some research it looks like it might be the d-plate sensor chip. Has anyone heard of these going bad in the past?

I dont think the dplate sensor would do that. It would be the other exhaust sensor, The one in bottom of the hull in the rear. I would replace it.

Hitemp will be water---->engine----->pisser related, not d-plate or chip related. Likely you have a clogged pump strainer or line.

The symptom I had was buzzer, high temp light, no spark, and would not start. Replaced the temp sensor and problem solved. See pic.

That doesnt go to a xlt1200

I'll take a look at purchasing an exhaust sensor. Is this something I could replace on my own?
