well maybe the south african guys have better tools

honestly, they are professionals, this is all they do, every day.

Mine came out, took the tech a couple of mins of high speed drilling.

Your other option, is to remove the bracket on the inside of the hull and fit a new one.

I did this to my intake grates braket.

You could probably take it to an american machinest with substandard tools and have them charge you out the a$$ to drill and retap most likely damaging the threads or just buy new inserts and be done with it. Took me about an hour and a half and it was good to go. Use antiseize this time though.

Well guys things didn't go very well. At first the reverse drill cut the bolt quite easily; the big problem was the bore hole wasn't in the center. After about an hour I broke through the bolt and proceeded to try the easy-out. 'Wouldn't budge, so I ended up boring out the hole and retapping it. I'm not crazy about the fix because the threads are half on the aluminum insert and on what was left of the sheared bolt. A poor fix to say the least. I'm going to leave it this way until the new bracket comes in, at that point I'll swap out the bracket. With some teflon tape and silicone I should be able to apply slight torque to hold the bolt in. The only thing that bugs me is I'm running 2 washers to push the tabs down (porpoising cure), and I don't know if the bolt will hold up with the water getting under the tab.
I can't remeber if these brackets just have a little 4200 holding them in or is that green crap over them. Anyone have some pics of that area??
        Thanks,
        jp

SO im in the same boat as you guys, well at least with regards to broken bolts in the hull... one broken in the shoe, one in the plate, and 2 in the trim tab (one of them 1 got out perfectly and broke reinstalling!) ... lol all nightmares trying to remove from underneath the hull. i have a new set of oem brackets i gotta look if they are shoe or plate brackets. anyone know if these are the same size? if they are i can use one for shoe and one for ride plate bc they are both need to be replaced on the port side

Never drilled out a broken fastener in 20 years. See post. I just removed a broken shoe bolt from a Yamaha. Plus you might want to start a new thread at this one is 13 years old.
