  • Triple 3 cylinder 2 stroke tachometer selection

    Besides the hour meter style tachometer (tiny tach), are there any other options identified?

    I am thinking an analog gauge for a motorcycle would work since they are typically water resistant, but I can't seem to find clear specifications on them for measuring a 2-stroke 3 cylinder engine.

    Lots of options for boat tachs. Many have adjustable "pulse per rev" switch to work with many different engine configurations.

      I was wondering what application besides PWC would run a 3 cyl 2 stroke, and didn't think about outboards duh that is a huge market so I'll change up my search terms and see what I can find.

        I am not a tach tech guru yet: wouldn't a 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine have the same number of pulses per revolution as a 6-cylinder 4-stroke? As in you can use a tachometer designed for a 6 cyl 4T in a 3 cyl 2T application.

        Edit:
        just googled this http://wpsm.free.fr/en/racingtach.html
        • the formula for determining how many times your engine fires per revolution is :Examples :
          • 0.5 X the number of cylinders for a four-stroke engine
          • 1 X the number of cylinders for a two-stroke engine.
          • Four-stroke & 4 cylinders engine => 0.5 * 4 = 2 sparks per revolution (the common value for a car)
          • Four-stroke & 6 cylinders engine => 0.5 * 6 = 3 sparks per revolution
          • Two-stroke & 2 cylinders engine => 1 * 2 = 2 sparks per revolution

        So the answer to my questions is yes...

          Came across Koso, they have a huge selection and looks like most of their universal tachs can handle all engine types:

          Here is a tach and temp gauge in one: https://kosonorthamerica.com/shop/mo...h-temperature/

          They have a value digital tach, I wonder if the update rate is fast, that would be a good deal if it is quick: https://kosonorthamerica.com/shop/mo...e-mx/mini-rpm/

          Here is a video someone posted using this digital tach, is it faster than tiny tach? Looks like it is updating maybe 3 times per second:
          Honda pcx, Koso, Koso mini, Koso tachometer, motorcycle tacho
