I'd like to cut a few holes in my hood under my wind screen, and then a few in my storage bucket. What do you experienced guys think about that? Good idea?Bad idea? It's an '05 GPR stocker.

The more the engine "breathes" the better...plus , believe it or not, you will be able to hear the engine better.
Doesnt do much good to cut holes and have the stock air ducts, so you will have to remove them too. Be sure to install some sort of filtration, so you dont injest waterVisit our facebook page:

Gotcha, but ... can I really cut some holes AND remove the stock air duct without an EFI controller for some added fuel? Also, are you referring to removing the air duct all the way back to the airbox on the throttle bodies but leaving the airbox on? <---- (obliviously) Thanks.Originally posted by waxYamaha makes them very mild so 2 big fat ladies can troll around towing their husbands on a ring running on last years fuel. Obviously it would run better with a controller, but you will be OK...remember when we used to flip the airfilter lid on your folks car, for the sound effect?
Remove all the ducts, that you can get to, leave the plastic plenum attached to the throttle bodies, and get yourself at least a Power filter.
I think I have one and John Abbott has one for saleVisit our facebook page:

Crazy.
Lots of folks are running without the front bucket, and that alone picks up lots of air.
I enjoy the bucket's storage, so I found a way to block the airflow LEAVING the bucket area at the back of the hood, and force air into the holes cut in the lid, and through the bucket.
Note the two channels on each side of the black underpiece near the gauges? I used closed cell foam (seat material) to block those channels. The air gets pushed through the hood, and then through the hole in my bucket. I experimented with different thicknesses until the lid shut, with very little gap at the top.Mark

yea i know...........I guess i got a little exited about having a new drill and got carried away.
Its not going to help by going all out like that - just do the big ones at the top and it works fine.John Abbott

That looks like my grandfather's minnow bucket!
But, it does work John.
More air, more air, more air....20-30 rpm's depending. Rev the engine with your seat on some time and watch it move like it's breathing. Engine wants more air...give her more.http://wcporting.com/

nice, I have a carbon fiber hood and the bucket is still in there. I may pull the hood off and drill some holes ala what you have. Thanks for the picture.

wow, i have never seen one of those!! If you have your stock windscreen attachment that you could put on there (not sure it will fit though), then you could drill the hell out of that, or better yet take the whole thing off to where it's like running a stock boat with no bucket, but having the original windscreen attached. It looks like you are going to be deprived of air on that set-up, but you may have other stuff going on that is not shown in the pics.
