  • intake grate bolts

So i know that the intake grate bolts are an accident waiting to happen and i'd like to get that giant aluminum block that goes under the intermediate shaft so i can run M8 bolts. However what's involved in pulling the intermediate shaft? Does the motor come out?

Unbolt the motor mounts, slide the engine forward a tad, then you can take out the mid shaft.

if that's the case, i'm assuming it's not very long? Is it only the 4 motor mounts on the sides? The ones under the motor just rest on the hull right?

Hold this thought!!!!!!! Installing the bracket goes on the other side of the mid wall no need to move the motor! Pull your drive shaft! Buy your block from WFO and also replace the oem hose. He sells that also. Lee

so it sits right behind the wall? I thought it sat under the PTO? So just pull the pump and driveshaft and i'm good?

yeah, thanks so much guys. IMO this seems like a must do mod right up there with tunnel reinforcement. Those 6mm bolts are just damn scary.

I agree this mod makes alot of sense, but you rarely hear of the grates tearing lose. Heck, my ski has 400+ hours on it with the stock bolts/mounts

there have been several instances where the reason why the grate breaks are cause of the bolts. the down force on the grate can make the bolts pull right through. the bolts that take the most abuse is the front intake grate bolts. that's why wfo has come up with this kit. i believe i also read on here that there have been less reports of 800 grates cracking as well.

ok. so the cheap bolts fail or the brass inserts pull through? I hope people are putting thread locker on the bolts, because if the bolts aren't secure, that could be part of the problem: the up and down movement of the grate could wrench the inserts out
