  • Fx Sho TPS problem?

Hi. I have a 2009 fx sho bought new in 2012. From new i will only get 91km/h (56,8mph) and rpm is at +\- 7000. It accelarate fast until 7000 rpm and then stop. There is now boost leak and the sc wheel is only spinning one direction so the clutch is good and there is no cavitation at all. Could it be the TPS that is bad?

I would think if it was bad you should get a check engine light with a tps code. Did you take out the throttle body and check it maybe not opening up all the way could be sticking.

Did you happen to look at the right hand pisser when you are cruising to make sure water is coming out, Just to make sure your intercooler is not clogged up, Also try this when you try to go wide open start giving it throttle slowly and see were it stop just don't nail it.

The right hand pisser is open and water is spraying out. I did give it gas slowly and it tops out at the same 7000 rpm. I also try to let the revs drop to 6800 rpm and gun it and yet again it stops at 7000.

With the seat off start the ski and let it idle for a few seconds and then shut it down do you hear the supercharger clutch free spin smoothly.

Hi there i took the seat off this morning and let it idle for a few seconds. After shut off the sc free spool for about 2 seconds. Is this normal?

Maybe the clutch is starting to go. So you wont really feel it turning the impeller the other way. It wont budge easy I mean.

Hi Private_xpl. The ski did this from new, the ski has 48hrs on now. And i didnt think something was wrong until i surf the web and saw everybody with a fx sho got around 66mph and i only got 57mph. Dont you think the clutch would have siezed up by now if it was doing this from the start?

Hi robbiestar i havnt tried another ecu. I'm going to take the ski to the dealer on Friday to hook it up with YDIS and going to check everything myself. I will let you know if i find the problem.

Hi there i was at the dealer today and after some testing we found nothing wrong with the ski. All the sensors voltage was correct. We have tested the tps sensor 1 and 2 with open and closed throttle position and also accelerator position 1 and 2 with open and closed position. The throttle valve opening is 80,3 degrees also in spec ( over 70 degrees is ok as per manual). They told me they get once in a while a ski that is bit slower then others and i must put on the intake mod and the ribbon delete. I was not satisfied and once i got home i took my volt meter and start at the aps sensor and inspect the input voltage and output voltage all was in spec. I then saw in the service manual you can also check the ohm. Then it got interesting.

                        (Manual) Aps 1 closed 0.5 - 0.9 ohm i got 0.92
                        Aps 1 open 3.75 - 4.35 ohm i got 4.89

                        (Manual) Aps 2 closed 0.35 - 1.05 ohm i got 0.78
                        Aps 2 open 3.60 - 4.50 ohm i got 4.66

Do you think that could be the problem?

resistance measurement depends on the temperature, these measurements are ok

I did a ribbon delete and got about a 100 more rpms now 7100 +/- and speed is now 58,4 vs 56,5. Could it be my elevation of 4300 ft that is the problem of not getting that extra 400 rpms. I am going to take out the impeller to see what pitch it have. What pitch do you sugest?

Elevation, temperature, humidity...all of these will affect overall power output of an engine. Being supercharged can help overcome these problems compared to N/A engines, but that doesn't change the fact that air becomes less dense as elevation increases and you will have a loss in power.

56.8MPH at 4300ft vs about 66MPH at sea level is a loss of about 14%.
All else being equal, 4300ft elevation translates into a 13% power loss.

I'd say elevation is your problem, it will vary slightly depending on weather but your speed loss from water and wind resistance + elevation matches up pretty close to what I'd expect. I'd stop worrying and enjoy the ski!
