Maybe it’s because I’ve never taken the housing off that I don’t understand how it’s walking. There are two halves that make up the SC housing. The outer part has to be drilled, taped and screwed so it doesn’t walk back? What is it being secured to when tapped if it’s only going through the outer half? Some Pics would be helpful. Thank you

The front half of the sc housing is two parts that are pressed together. It is hard to tell but where the air enters the sc os where the two parts are pressed together the screw keeps them from seperating, over time they tend to seperate from enging heat alowing the inside front half to move backwards touching the sc wheel.

        Thank you and great timing.

While doing tunnel reinforcement and my engine is pulled, I will make the modification.

        As always, great information!

        Thanks.

Ok. That makes more sense. Thank you for the clarification. Is it easy to take the two halves apart?

On the 2013 & newer SC covers, the volutes are only pressed in. I know of a few cases of the 2013 & newer covers (SHO and SVHO) where the volute "walks" back against the SC impeller. I have only seen this on higher boost applications so far. Currently I have not seen any stock SC covers do this. Just want to give everybody a heads up on this. I'm not saying there is a mass epidemic of this. As of today, there have been only a few that I've heard about. I Don't want to cause a panic out there, but if you plan on pushing high boost with one of the non pinned covers, you might want to think about drill, tap & install a screw to pin the volute in place.

            Hope this helps!

So does anyone know how big and long the bolt should be and the tap to make this work? Should you do 2 bolts? Pinned on opposite sides?

Only one screw is needed, do not use a bolt. A Phillips head screw about 10mm in length is all that's needed. Just like Yamaha themselves used to use in 2012 and older housings

im still kinda nervous about pinning charger and warranty. Say the shaft breaks and wipes out charger could they void warranty cause teqnically you modified your charger even if its unrealated ??

I cannot see Yamaha voiding a warranty for installing a set screw just like Yamaha themselves used to do on 2012 and older superchargers (see above pic). Yamaha should still be pinning these housings!!!

Furthermore, putting that set screw could not cause any other component of the supercharger to fail. It prevents it from failing.

After doing the drill and tap, all metal cuttings must be properly cleaned away. Metal shavings are not something you want going into the supercharger.

This work should NOT be done with the supercharger assembled, correct?

What seems like straightforward/obvious work methods for someone with a machinist type background may not be obvious to someone else who only does bolt-on modifications.

There is no how-to video or step by step photos posted, correct? Just before and after photos.
