  • Well I donÔÇÖt know how I feel about my purchase

Long story short I've been looking for a 12-18 fx Ho cruiser with a limited budget. Good luck with covid. Had one sho lined up for 6k with a trailer but that sold and one with 52 hours from some kind of flipper for 8500 (guy was sketchy so idk if that's the real hours). I got sick and tired of waiting around and jumped on an fx ho rental for 5k with 280 hours w/o a trailer. The ski on the outside is cosmetically rough but the engine looks like my friends 2019. I drove 4 hours to get it and I expected it to be alittle better but it drove 60 mph. Seems to be very well maintained. Now I'm starting to question if I got caught up in the moment or I actually got a deal. Judging what's out here in the northeast it seems like I did ok but at this point idk.

What year is it ? Looks clean, it not a 2019 engine. Was from freshwater ? If it is 280 hours is nothing for that motor.
If it has lived in saltwater you should be ok but may need pump maintenance and have seized bolts here and there etc. Those things would just be normal with age and hours in saltwater.

It would be very challenging to change the hours in the PCM. I sold a 2017 FXHO for $11400 with trailer 55 hrs a couple months back. When you are in the $5-7K range the first two ski were incredible deals. 280 hours on a non-svho ski shouldn't be to much of concern. The only issue is if you sale. I never bought a ski with more than 40 hrs on it and I bought 5. There are so many people that buy them and dont use that if you wait long enough one comes up. On the flip side $5K in todays economy isn't much, a nice vacation for 4? Allot of nothing is nothing.

I wasn't concerned about the pcm more about the cluster. I have heard of people in my area buying skis with high hours and changing the cluster. Plus I found it strange that he was asking 12k no trailer but would take 8500 with single trailer. That throws a huge red flag to me. The 6k fx sho was salt water use and the timing chain scared me. The body is definitely not as clean on this ski but the engine bay makes up for it tenfold. I've wanted a ski like this for 2 years so hopefully I don't regret my decision lol

In the end the most you can loose is $5K if you 100% scrapped ski and trailer. I bet you can sale that ski all day long for what you paid or at absolute worst case $4K? So at most can loose $1K. Three rentals may very well get you close to $1K and then the rest of the rides are free. A non SVHO 1.8liter is about as bullet proof as you can get. If it runs 60 mph from a business standpoint it is not possible you went wrong. If for some reason you dont like sell it. That the beauty of buying used, you get most if not all of your money back. The one I sold for 11,400 I paid 8500 and put 30 hrs on it........ No, you are not breaking any laws by selling things for more than you paid. I paid 7500 for a VXR with 15 hours, sold years later with 120 hrs for 8500......

ya I got it with no trailer for 5k honestly probably should've spent alittle extra money on something less hours and nicer but again everyone I see is almost double the price. 🤷♂️ Time to just ride and enjoy
