I started poking around my new 2023 FX svho limited that I picked up yesterday. I’ll have some more data tomorrow but so far it seems to be a gauge calibration issue.

I was able to match up fuel sender resistance values with the gauge reading. Tomorrow I will be matching up actual gallons of fuel in the tank with those sender output values. From there we will have the info to figure out the calibration and hopefully come up with a way to trick the gauge into reading correctly.

The solution to this may exist in the automotive world. There are converters out there that make any fuel sender work with any gauge. I’ll be doing some more experimenting in the next few weeks. This will get figured out for those who are interested in fixing the issue themselves

Im my opinion this is really the only issue holding the FX back from being the nearly perfect ski.

Good idea. I may do this as well.

Also, see you are from Shelbyville. My family had a houseboat at Lithia for many years. Lots of good times on that lake.

I like this idea better. I put hydroturf over mine, which quieted it down, but too much I think. I can barely hear it when running about making it inaudible. I think I'll just wire up a switch for this.

The signal between the dash and fuel level sender is analog and fairly low level voltage/current.

The module would need to be waterproof and robust mechanically.

Power needs to come from somewhere, and be switched with engine on/off.

The Arduino could modify the signal so that when the tank still has fuel, the touch screen is made to think the fuel level is still good.
I haven't looked at the connectors yet... I will try to do that this weekend.

I have been trying to source these connectors for a while. I have a company looking into getting them. I think the issue is the way it’s keyed. It’s essentially the same plug that on the fuel injectors it’s just keyed differently. Hopefully I know something soon. It seems like I may have to buy a decent quantity to get them so I’ll have some available to sell if I can get my hands on them

Within the float range of motion the lower float region provides a non-linear ohm signal to the dash.
When the fuel level declines below this level the signal to the dash (~95 ohms) effectively becomes ‘Low/Empty’
and stays like that until the tank really is empty (~130 ohms).

This video is the best I can do - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdWLb67qhNk. 35 litres left when the alarm starts going off.

who knows, there is 40 plus litres left on one bar and the low fuel buzzer sounding like a banshee. Only thing to knee jerk yamaha into doing something is if they are very publicly losing sales of their product to a competitor because of this issue

My 22 Limited gauge shows full fine and drops as it should down to half way. When it reaches half way though, it then drops extremely quickly to zero.

While I haven't yet run my ski to the low fuel alarm, I know my ski does read low. With my gauge reading just below half tank (4 bars), I still had 10 gallons left in the tank. I have a 2022 FX HO.

Also, the FX HO's coming with a 5" touch screen while the SVHO's come with the 7" touch screens.

Yamaha needs to fix this ASAP!

Oh that’s wonderful to hear. I pick up my limited on Saturday. I guess I’ll see what the deal with this is.

It does seem that there are several 'issues' or concerns regarding the fuel level dash indication and the Low Fuel warning alarm.

Some rider reports of significantly incorrect fuel readings on the dash.
Full tank without full reading on the dash meter.
And/or 'empty' dash reading when the fuel tank still contains a significant portion of the fuel capacity.

The fuel sender unit part number has not changed in years. Across many (all?) models the float for the sender mechanically does not touch the bottom of the tank nor the top. Which means the sender electrically cannot distinguish fuel levels outside the arm swing range (above 5 ohm 'full reading' and below 'Low')

Within the float range of motion the lower float region provides a non-linear ohm signal to the dash. When the fuel level declines below this level the signal to the dash (~95 ohms) effectively becomes 'Low/Empty' and stays like that until the tank really is empty (~130 ohms).

For the Touch Screen FX models it seems that there are at least two versions of the seven inch screen size dash, possibly affecting how the Low Fuel warning works.

    My understandings;
2019 was the first year for the color touch screen on FX
2022 went to the 7 inch touch screen for FX
2023 has a revised part number for the dash unit

2023 Touch screen dash (FX with audio)
    METER ASSY
    F5G-U820A-01-00

2022 FX dash (FX with audio)
    F5G-U820A-00-00

    Dash wire harness
    F5G-U0891-00-00
