yam 1.8 ho/sho/svho crankcase repair thrust plate - or plates?

Just want some more experience opinion on this: can it be done even after the crankshaft has pushed on cases and did a little score there?
Also some are saying that an extra plate can be added rear of the flywheel.

A good machinist can do it. Ive had one fixed, but put the plate at the thrust surface.
