  • 2022 gp1800r won't rev past 7800 with tune

I had a 2022 GP1800R did ribbon delete and Riva stage 1 plus 8500 tune. The ski ran perfectly and would rev to about 8300 reaching 78-79 MPH. Unfortunately the top deck cracked and Yamaha replaced the ski with a new one.
After break in with the ribbon removed I load the same tune and cannot get this thing to rev past 7800 and about 74 MPH. I have checked for boost leaks and changed the plugs, next thing is a compression check.
If anyone has a similar problem let me know. I'm starting to think it might be a throttle problem as it gets to 7800 fast and just stops there.

Did you buy another tune license from Riva for the different ECU serial number?

Which exact tune did you select from the MaptunerX device to program the ECU?

My initial suspicion is that the installed tune did not ÔÇÿtakeÔÇÖ or the installed tune is not the same tune you had on the prior engine.

Riva were good enough to transfer the tuning licence to the new VIN
I used the same tune , stage 1 plus 8500. I have tried the ARG tune as well but with the same result.
It is very frustrating as I know how the first ski performed.

As a diagnostic, restore the factory tune.

Verify the engine runs as it should with factory config.

Use the Riva PC software to reload the desired tune onto the device.
First make sure all software updates from Riva have been done.

Then reinstall the desired Riva tune on the ECU.

If still no better, check cylinder compression.
And install a fresh set of spark plugs. Just in case.

Make sure the boost hoses are properly seated and the clamps are in position and tight. Especially at the throttle body to J-tube. This can work loose and leak boost. Sometimes it comes off entirely.

This is great advice. More info here on the hose coming off the throttle body slightly. This is a common issue

The throttle body to J-tube joint is low on the right side of the engine, below and tucked under the intake manifold. Hard to see.

if the J pipe was off, he would not be pulling 7000 rpms. but maybe a slight leak.

Fully agree he would not be seeing that rpm if j pipe came completely off t/body, but ive seen a few that were not fully seated and clamp did the ol' side shuffle on a re- button up. Enough bite to hold the J,but will leak at peak boost. Although i dont suspect thats his issue, sounds more like a slippin clutch. My last clutch would bite but only hold around 7700 for the entire outing, fully shit the bed a short time later.

Riva have activated data logging on my Maptuner, what a great company they are. Soon as I get a chance I will get a log and send it to them. It isn't a loose J tube thats the first thing I checked.
Will update when I have more info.
