Also, a longer plate will reduce porpoising. A shorter plate will increase it.
A longer plate also improves handling, and greatly improves hook up in choppy water.

While sponons play a large role in the handling of the ski, a large portion of the handling characteristics comes from the ride plate.
Sorry for being stubborn about this. What I meant about the 5 degree plate on the HO was just to bring the HO top speed up since in stock form it won't break 70mph. And about the sponsons, Yamaha moved them forward on both the HO and SVHO. You made it sound like they only did that on the SVHO models.

I think we have to face facts their are better riva products than others, I like riva, have had some good upgrades from them but i am no riva groupie that has to have every upgrade available. The reason I wont buy the ride plate is because more people than not complain about the bounce, The way my standard plate is shimmed probably is the equivilant of the 5deg HO plate. We both have no bounce on either standard plate and they are yeilding good speed and handling results.

I totally agree! I love Riva products also! I know this might be ridiculous but they should have a satisfaction guarantee on that plate. $300+ is a lot for..... it might work on yours or not. I would buy one immediately and let myself be the judge if it's so great.

Great input, and I stand corrected. When Kevin Shaw and I were at the Yamaha press introduction of these new ski, we were specifically told only the SVHO had the sponsons moved forward. Of course, we were talking to marketing people, not Yamaha engineers. It absolutely makes sense that they moved them forward on both hulls.

It may be the water conditions or weight distribution (me being fat), but I also had bounce with the factory plate at full up trim. That was on smooth water though, so maybe having a little chop is the key to not having as much bounce.

Did the bounce diminish when the trim up angle was reduced?
