2008 FX Cruiser SHO Running issues

Need some help guys, im working on a 2008 SHO with 130hrs on it. It has been rebuilt by another person. Compression is 155 across all cylinders.the person who had this before my friend put a 160mm wear ring in it but put a 155 impeller (13/22 concord). I took it out to confirm my friends problems. Waverunner sounds like it’s missing down low for the first ten minutes and then clears up but only runs 50 gps speed. No codes are displayed. I have checked compression, put the correct size wear ring in and I’m still having this issue.

Any ideas before I tell my friend he got took for 6k?

yes plugs have been change. Saw a post on here about the supercharger. So I pulled the RIVA intake off and sure enough the supercharger spins both ways. I’m assuming that’s my problem. Would it cause that surging down low though? It revs up to 8k while WOT but only gets 55. Plugs looked a bit white for my liking.

Replace the clutch and see where it’s at after that. I’m guessing that’s the issue

Be aware that Yamaha has revised the supercharger clutch several times over the years.

You may (probably) need to upgrade the idler gear and the clutch, plus some other small parts changes (such as button head bolts for timing chain guide) to install a current generation 27-sprag Yamaha clutch. The bolt that holds the clutch to the crank may also be different (larger oil hole?).

Look in the GH online store for a ‘kit’ and check the notes about upgrading the older Yamaha supercharged engines to the current SVHO clutch design.

Your clutch is definitely bad. This is the clutch kit you need as it comes with the updated drive gear you will need for your 08

Yes, the supercharger clutch is going in and out.

Your clutch is definitely bad. This is the clutch kit you need as it comes with the updated drive gear you will need for your 08

The Yamaha part numbers have been posted across several prior threads in the Yamaha forums

My understanding is that the linked kit was assembled by Jerry (owner of GH forum and the 4Tec online store) specifically for the situation you have. Upgrading the older engines to the newest Yamaha clutch along with the necessary other parts to make it all work.

You can buy the linked kit, or you can hunt down the part numbers and source the individual parts elsewhere.

Hey all, little update. My friend got me all of the parts for this ski. Just fired it up and it seems to still have a miss around 2k rpm’s on the hose. Is there anything I need to do with the supercharger after is has been removed and re installed?

Change your spark plugs!
Also check the wires where they connect to the pins on the coil and injector connectors. The wires tend to break off and not have a good connection.
