  • ‘18 GP1800 rpms sporadic at idle

2018 gp1800. Stage 2 tune. Lots of upgrades. 80hrs. When i start the ski up the rpms just jump up and down on their own. Above and below 4000 range. Anyone seen this before? I thought my throttle body was bad but i removed it/inspected and its fine, mechanically . Maybe the cable is sending mixed signals to open and close it? Air leak? Anyone have a suggestion please and thank you

Is this a salt water machine?

It is possible the electrically actuated throttle body is failing internally. Corrosion or just aging. Not common but it can happen

Do you have another machine that you can swap parts with for testing?

Have you unplugged and inspected each electrical connector? There are a number of connectors between the handlebar throttle control, the ECU, and the throttle body. Look for loose or damaged pins or wires, corrosion, moisture inside the connector

Sounds like a throttle body on it's way out.

Ive cleaned all the connections and checked for corrosion. Butterfly valve is not loose nor is it freely opening as air draws in from the suprchrgr. Im not sure how i can test the electric cable from the throttle body. I dont have spares but am ordering a new cable. Any idea if there might be something else that could cause this. Perhaps a sticking valve or anything else. I think its something to do with the throttle but just wondering if someone’s experienced this situation and if they found a solution. Never seen this happen and have searched for hours cant find anyone with a similar problem. Thanks again

I feel like you are wasting your time ordering a new cable. It's not the cable that goes bad, it's the electronically actuated throttle body itself. Do you have a known good throttle body off of another ski that you could try?

Okay, thanks for your advice i guess you’re right. Im gonna order a new one. It lived a good life. But in hopes of also salvaging this faulty one, do you know the best way to test this throttle body outside of the ski ?
