Another crazy project from Norway ldi

This time its a open submarine which is the project...

It's gonna be powered by a small 1 cyl 4-stroke 10hp dieselengine.
The engine will be fed by two airtanks holding 200bar/200liter x 2 = 80.000liters of air, or 2900psi/53gallons x 2 = 21133 gallons.
The engine will drive a singel shaft into a right angle gear, and then into two small outboard engine gearboxes.

So no batter power for under the deck - all diesel. Any guestimates on max/crush depth, range and time allowed under? Also, you going w/a fiberglass shell for a hull?

Well... I'm not the guy who usually goes with the flow...my latest project should prove that... and some would say I'm crazy... and maybe I am a little crazy

The only electric so far will be battery for the starter, lights, valves etc...

There will be no limit caused by crushing (well 6000ft) since the engine is in an "open" chamber. It will be like putting a bottle up side down, and then add the needed air to keep it full/dry.

The hull is made of plywood, but might get covered by fiberglass if it's a success.

The range will be at surface at 3600rpm (max) = 120minutes
The rest is math 10m/33ft = 60 minutes
But we can also half the rpm and make it 120 minutes at 10m/32ft.

The engine will automaticly switch over to surface air when we surface.


We might add some el-motors if the diesel wont take us deep enough, and we will have a generator connected to the diesel-engine to charge the batteries.

Just got hold of two mercury 25hp gearboxes
The gearing is 2,25:1 and should bring the propeller to 1600rpm.
