California Councilman Robbed While Speaking to Shop Owners About Crime

On Monday, a California councilman was robbed while speaking to shop owners about crime in the Bay Area.

Emeryville council member Kalimah Priforce found his “wallet and keys had been stolen from his bike bag” at Bay Street Mall.

“A lot of stores that can’t afford private guards need panic buttons, a direct line to the police, so they don’t have to actually pick up the phone [and] call the police dispatch,” he said, before realizing he had been robbed, according to a report from Fox News.

Priforce called the police to report the incident after realizing his things were gone.

“The thing is that they’re not going to get much from it, I am on a politician’s budget,” he joked to CBS News. “But no, everything is digital now. The criminals will adapt and we have to adapt with them.”

Priforce said that politicians need to be doing more to protect business owners.

“Better prepared, better cameras, better surveillance, better ways of being able to protect our local businesses,” he said. “Unfortunately, we place more emphasis on luxury-rate market apartments in our cities than we do on our public safety.”

The day before the robbery, a swarm of teens had descended on the mall and a massive brawl ensued.

“One gunshot was fired, one person was stabbed, and workers at stores like Bath & Body Works locked themselves in the stock room,” CBS News reports. “Police said the drama started with about 50 teens in one store before it escalated outside.”

Arizona Firm Operated by Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma’s Brother Acquires Majority Stake in Runbeck Election Services – Company Runs Early Voting in Maricopa County

An Arizona investment firm closely linked to Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma has acquired a majority stake in Runbeck Election Services, the third-party company that is contracted for mail-in ballots in Maricopa County elections.

Toma has come under fire in the past when it was discovered that Runbeck President And COO Jeff Ellington chairs a company affiliated with Toma’s Family.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported on the shady connection between Runbeck and Ben Toma in the aftermath of the stolen Arizona midterm election that was riddled with corruption.

Many questions surround what really goes on at the secretive far-left private company that is running elections in Maricopa County.

Runbeck could currently be facing potential legal action from Arizona legislators over a refusal to comply with public records requests related to a legislative investigation. Kari Lake’s attorneys are also suing Runbeck for public records related to Lake’s lawsuit against the stolen election. However, State Rep. Alex Kolodin says he is “cautiously optimistic” that this will no longer be needed.

    Arizona Daily Independent reports:

Lincoln Shields, a subsidiary of Black Mountain Investment Company, acquired a majority stake in Runbeck Election Services on August 18, 2023, according to their recent announcement. The transaction will provide Runbeck with a capital infusion the company says will allow it to expand its services and offerings.

Black Mountain is an Arizona based investment firm involved in a number of different sectors of the economy. Its CEO is Mihai Toma, whose family escaped the communists in Romania. Toma’s brother Ben serves as Arizona’s Speaker of the House, and has been a vocal advocate for election integrity measures, including several he introduced himself to improve both the transparency and accountability of Arizona’s elections process. Both Speaker Toma and Senate President Warren Petersen have also supported the legal challenges launched by 2022 Attorney General nominee Abe Hamadeh.

“This is obviously good news for election reformers, because you’ve got this family that knows what the radical left is all about, and they are going to be in a position to safeguard and hopefully improve an important part of the election process.” said one excited Arizona election observer. “Imagine how bad you would feel if George Soros bought the company. Now flip it 180 degrees because the opposite just happened. That’s how good you should feel.”

Arizona State Rep Alex Kolodin, who is leading the charge in obtaining elections records from Runbeck, told The Gateway Pundit, “I am cautiously optimistic about the potential for this change in ownership to translate into meaningful actions that make Runbeck’s processes more transparent and secure.”

Republican voters and politicians must leverage Toma’s involvement in the company and push him to clean Runbeck up. However, this could mean Arizona never gets rid of mail-in ballots.

Zelensky Says Ukraine Won’t Hold Elections Unless US & EU Taxpayers Pay For Them

"I’m sorry, I will not hold elections on credit, I will not take money from weapons and give it to elections either," he says.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the US and EU taxpayers fork over more money if they want to see Ukraine hold elections next year.

In an interview released by his office on Sunday, Zelensky said he’d like to hold elections despite ongoing martial law in the country as long as the United States and the European Union pay for the election process.

Zelensky said he spoke with neocon Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a staunch supporter of sending more aid to Ukraine.

“I told [Sen. Graham]: If the United States and Europe give us financial support…I’m sorry, I will not hold elections on credit, I will not take money from weapons and give it to elections either,” Zelensky said.

“But if you give me this financial support, if the parliamentarians realize that we need to do this, then let’s quickly change the legislation and, most importantly, let’s take risks together.”

“Observers should be in the trenches. I told him: observers must be sent to the frontline so that the elections are legitimate for us and for the whole world. And this is absolutely fair,” he added.

Zelensky went on about how expensive elections are, claiming that they normally cost at least 5 billion hryvnia ($135 million), and that millions of Ukrainians now abroad in Europe would have to vote, which requires voting infrastructure.

“We need help from Europe here, because Ukrainians today are mostly in the European Union. Polling stations must be opened there so that people can come. 7 million people have to vote. We do not have such infrastructural capacities – we need to provide appropriate opportunities there,” he said.

“How will the military be able to vote? Show me the infrastructure. No one has shown it yet. How will people abroad be able to vote? No one has shown me. There is a way out. I am ready for it. I am talking about this publicly now, I told [Graham], I have no secrets,” he added.

“We need an election in Ukraine next year. I want to see this country have a free and fair election even while it is under assault,” the president said.

Zelensky, a former comedian, was elected as president in 2019 with 73% of the vote after running on cracking down on corruption and normalizing relations with Russia.

    Look how that worked out.

Elections have been suspended after Zelensky imposed martial law last year, which he extended until November 15, casting doubt over whether parliamentary elections, which are usually held in October, will happen. The presidential election usually takes place in March.

Zelensky also banned numerous opposition parties last year after claiming they were pro-Russia, so it remains to be seen if he would allow them to participate in these U.S.-funded elections.

Meanwhile, the Biden regime and the EU have already collectively sent $150 billion to Ukraine, but somehow the country can’t set aside $135 million to fund its elections.

Remember, there’s a reason why Ukraine is considered the most corrupt country on Earth.

Wildfire Prompts Mandatory Evacuation of Entire Southwestern Louisiana Town – State Officials Say It’s the Largest in State’s History

Louisiana is currently facing an unprecedented wildfire crisis, with the state experiencing a record-breaking number of fires in August.

In just a few weeks, Louisiana has already witnessed a staggering number of wildfires.

According to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 441 fires have burned from August 1 to August 24.

These fires have scorched over 8,385 acres of land, and that number does not even include the ongoing fire on Tiger Island, estimated to have already consumed more than 20,000 acres.

The Tiger Island Fire in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, is the state’s largest fire and has burned an estimated 15,000 acres (6,070 hectares) so far, covering around 23 square miles (60 square kilometers), according to AP.

As of Friday evening, there were at least six active fires in Livingston, Sabine, Vernon, and Beauregard Parishes. The rapid spread of these fires has overwhelmed state and local officials, who are now dealing with multiple fire incidents simultaneously.

As Banks Get Downgraded and Americans Scramble to Protect Retirement Accounts With Physical Gold and Silver, A Faith-Based Company Shows Them How

“This is unprecedented. We’ve never had to fight this many fires simultaneously and at this duration. We’re fighting between 25 and 30 (wildfires) today,” Mike Strain, the commissioner for Louisiana’s Department of Agriculture and Forestry, said during a press conference Friday.

“It’s burning very intensely. It’s moving pretty fast, and you can feel the air picking up. That’s from the heat of the fire sucking air into the fire,” he added.

Multiple towns in southwestern Louisiana have been placed under mandatory evacuation orders, and state officials have implemented a burn ban in an attempt to control the situation.

The town of Merryville, located near the Louisiana-Texas border, was forced to evacuate its 1,200 residents on Thursday night. The evacuation order remains in effect, as the fire continues to pose a threat to the town. There have been no reported injuries.

This was the #TigerIslandFire last night in SW Louisiana. The fire grew to 14k acres, prompting evacuations! More from FOX Weather:
According to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, containment decreased from 85% to 50% by Friday morning due to constantly shifting wind conditions and the dry conditions of the vegetation. By Friday evening, the Forestry Department reported that containment stood slightly above 50%. The area of concentration was east of the town of Merryville, which lies close to the Louisiana-Texas border.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he has deployed 89 firefighters, paramedics and emergency management personnel along with emergency response resources to Louisiana to help combat the devastating wildfires currently burning near the Texas-Louisiana border and across the Pelican State.

High temperatures, drought and variable winds prompted the NWS to issue a Fire Weather Warning through Friday night for critical to extreme fire weather conditions.

“This is rapidly becoming the biggest fire danger threat this area has had since the summer of 2000,” the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles office warned. “Fires can spread rapidly in these conditions.”

A towering inferno erupted at a south Louisiana oil refinery on Friday morning, sending plumes of black smoke and forcing an emergency evacuation of residents within a two-mile radius. Although no injuries were reported, the incident has reignited concerns about the safety of such facilities, especially as it’s the third fire to hit the plant in less than a year.

The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. at the Marathon Petroleum facility in Garyville, situated about 30 miles northwest of New Orleans, according to WBRZ.

Officials from St. John the Baptist Parish reported that the incident involved a naphtha release and a fire at one of the refinery’s storage tanks. Naphtha is a flammable and toxic kind of raw petrol or gasoline distilled from crude oil and a raw material for the chemical industry, which is often used in soaps and varnishes.

St. John Parish President Jaclyn Hotard declared an emergency soon after the incident was reported, and an evacuation order was swiftly enacted for residents within a two-mile radius of the blaze. That order was lifted by 2:20 p.m., after emergency crews managed to bring the fire under control and limit it to two damaged storage tanks. WATCH:

    Bloomberg reported:
Diesel futures surged to a seven-month high in New York after Marathon Petroleum Corp. said it was shutting the third largest US oil refinery following a blaze at a storage tank.

Diesel rose 5% while gasoline futures jumped about 4%. The outage threatens to deplete already below-average distillates stockpiles at a time when US demand for the fuel is set to rise going into the harvest and heating seasons.

Garyville, located on the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, produces about 265,000 barrels a day of gasoline, or about 3% total US consumption. It also makes about 230,000 barrels per day of diesel, according to Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates in Houston. The refinery has a crude processing capacity of 596,000 barrels a day.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality “is conducting monitoring in the community adjacent to the site and all readings are nondetect,” according to spokesperson Gregory Langley.

The Environmental Protection Agency said it has deployed a federal coordinator to the site to oversee the response and provide technical support, including emergency response air monitoring in downwind communities. A firefighter is being evaluated for heat stress and two storage tanks have been damaged, according to Marathon spokesperson.
