  • In the Market for a Sea Doo Limited - Lakes area in Indiana

Good Morning! I am finally trying hard to get back on the lake with a New Ski. So I thought I would ask advice here about getting a great deal. I am VERY knowledgeable with motorcycle dealerships but have never really spent time in the nuts and bolts of jet ski market, riding or problems. I am 45 years old too. Finances say I could order a ski for next year and I am unsure about how to navigate the sales process for a good deal. I am away of constraints in manufacturing and so I am also considering putting a deposit on one for 2023 spring. Of course that might blow my negotiating power and is another reason I am here. I need to learn more about the sport and the buying process. I am leaning towards the 300 limited so its going to hurt my wallet!

I have around a year to find out about dealers in the great lakes area and how much fun this is going to be. Thanks for all of your opinions and advice!

Well; Start Now , if you’re looking for a 23 , find a dealer or two , and put a deposit on what you want.
Check PWC Trader in your area. Something my catch your eye. ( Best Bet ). 22 production is getting cut by all manufacturers. Used machines are going for top dollar. Keep your eyes open and cash in hand.

Someone who bought one recently said to ignore the MSRP. I take that as I need to do some serious negotiating to get a regular price. I understand the chip shortage but new lines of production are coming online in the second quarter. The situation is set to ease this summer. I dont mind talking to sales and negotiating. Not sure how far to push. thanks for the info!

If it eases this summer, it's going to take months for that easing to show up on dealer floors. If you want one this year it's not going to be easy unless you are ready to pay.

There's no secret to buying a ski-just wait until there is one on the floor available for purchase and make an offer! I would suggest taking up another activity for this summer.

Dealers should not be able to sell over MSRP, But they can slap the shit out of you with Dealer Fees. Doc, Prep,Finance, Some kid standing over it with a rag the day you pick it up. Including Trailer. $1500 to $2500 over. Be aware of the pat on the back !

For me this is a significant amount of debt. Having been in motorsports all my life I know its not cheap. Maybe next year there will be some incentives or something from Sea Doo. So far I havent seen anything. I signed up to get emails from Sea Doo but havent bothered a dealer yet. I really just dont want to miss out on getting a good deal because I acted like I didnt care for one. So far I read if you do it right you can get extra accessories discounts and some other stuff thrown in on the deal....hell maybe a discount on a trailer.I plan to at least start talking to 2 or 3 this spring and formulating a plan for next spring...if the world exists still. Thanks for the help everybody.

The Move Trailers appear to be the cheapest and dealer item but Ill be pulling with a Big 4 Door Car. I like how low the Triton LTWCI-x is. So this might make launch and load a little easier with a car???

Correct. Triton bunks are generally lower than on other PWC trailers. This means you won't have to back as far into the water to launch/retrieve.

Is your car front wheel drive or all wheel drive? It's best to keep the drive wheels out of the water.

Might be a good idea to keep a tow strap in the trunk and know where to connect it in case you get stuck.

Hell, I had to use my 2016 Frontier 4WD to pull out an F250 superduty/dually a few months ago...he was only rear wheel drive and had a 26'+ boat he was trying to launch. So, he had to back quite a ways into the water.

It appears that demand will again exceed supply for new PWC this summer of 2022. It is unclear whether that will continue into 2023.

Others will also council you to be careful about taking on debt to own a watercraft. In more normal times (before 2020) they do depreciate fairly quickly.

The Triton single PWC trailer with curved cross frame does allow the hull to ride closer to the ground and does allow the hull to be launched and recovered with the trailer pushed less distance down the launch ramp slope. Overall the Triton single is a nice PWC trailer, especially with torsion axle and stainless steel bolt hardware.

If the launch ramps you intend to use have particularly shallow slope, it is possible to extend the tongue on the trailer using a Fulton hinge. The extension folds away when the trailer is parked for storage, and when in use it allows the car to remain 2-3 feet farther up the launch ramp. A longer trailer also makes reversing easier.

The car is front wheel drive and if a ramp isnt going to support the car then I wont use it. I call AAA towing when I find a problem. One of the best $125 a year deal there is. Cheers

I used a FWD car for several years with a double PWC trailer.

Evaluate each launch ramp before using it. Some launch ramps have damage below the water or a steep drop off at the deep end of the concrete slab. Gravel, seaweed or just being a wet surface will reduce tire grip and can make it difficult for a FWD car to pull the loaded PWC trailer up and out.

A single PWC trailer is usually not a problem, but it all depends on the ramp slope and tire grip.

AAA can take a while to arrive, during which time other people may want to assist with getting your car and trailer off the ramp so others can use the ramp. I carry a tow strap and the bumper tow eye so I can easily be towed up the ramp, should the need occur.
