Rode from Ashland city to Bumpus Mills yesterday about 160 miles round trip. When I put in it was 49 degrees and chilly but I knew it would warm up and had to leave early if I was going to make some time efficiently.
It was my first time on that part of the Cumberland. Locking through was a breeze and the scenery was awesome. Something about going somewhere you have never been. Had the river to myself except a few fishermen and some tugs. At one point there was so much debris I felt like I was on a course with bouys.
I left with a full tank of gas and stopped at Clarksville marina to top off again took 3.1 gallons. Next fuel stop was Bumpus Mills and took 10.2 to fill....they only take cash "thanks NashVegas" had a burger and talked with the owners. ...very nice people. They are selling the marina and cottages and retiring. Return trip was the same with same gas stops. I could of made it on the same tank of fuel but why push it and it's nice to stop and take a break. The Clarksville marina is super nice...you could walk up to some fast food places if you wanted to. I was trying to make time with the sun setting earlier. Cruised at 42-45 all the way. Stopped here and there took pics ...checked out the industrial crap on the sides of the bank. Anybody have any idea what they pump water for ? I seen 2 huge mobile pumps running about 5 miles apart in the middle of nowhere. They had like 4 10" pipes running over the bank. About 1000 gallon fuel tanks. All in the middle of nowhere and no buildings in site.
Left at 8:15 and pulled out at 4:15. Nice ride...
