  • What is to become of the 550 Class(es)

I was wondering if Jim or anyone else had thoughts on what the future of 550 is going to be. I know there wasn't much turnout last season but I am at least one person looking to get one, and race it in order to double my race weekend exhaustion (What doesn't kill me makes me stronger?).

Also I figure it will be a good starter ski for my step son who is expressing interest in racing in the juniors. My biggest concern is obviously what the rules will be for the 550 Class as far as motor and hull mods before I start spending money (I assume the juniors rules will remain the same).

Ian Roberts has one. Don't know where they all went last season.

      Stegs -

Different classes are being discussed under the general racing threads. We plan on keeping the 550 class around for those interested and this will be the format used.

      550 JS open –
Any 550 or under “JS” hull with a 550 or under motor. Hull and motor mods are open. If you’re Fast Frank on a modified 550 and dominating the class, you’ll be moving up to the 750 class at the end of the season. If you’re Ian Roberts riding a bone stock 550 found at a yard sale and smoking the competition you’ll be moving up to the 750 class at the end of the season, but our history has shown it’s a pretty fair way to run it.

We used to run this class as the 650 and under but the JS hulls were no match for the 650 SX hulls so to keep things fair… the 550 guys have their own class whenever they want it. Last season they kind of disappeared off the face of the earth, but based on a staff member inspired and unique way to attract interest to the ski class that “started it all”...

      550’s will race for $5.50 a day in 2013.
If you have a 440 you’ll save a buck ten and race for $4.40 a day.
The biggest winners will be those with 300’s. $3.00 for a whole day of racing!!!
      We’ll see how it goes…

Alright sweet, time to look at finding a "New" boat then I guess. Running another class sounds fun and it will probably mean you will have another youngster joining the rest of the Juniors.

Those mad skills on a Sit must have come from somewhere - but who'd have thought they could come from him riding a 300 JS?? Simply Amazing!!!
