  • Here we go.. The DJSA 2013 Season Opener at SSVR Copperopolis. April 6th amd 7th ~

DJSA 2013 Outlaw Series Season Opener
    Saturday, April 6th, Race # 1 - 3 heat format
Sunday, April 7th, Race #2 – junior time trials followed by a 2 heat format
At the pwc paradise known as - "Salt Springs Valley Reservoir"
    Copperopolis California.

    Host location~
    Salt Springs Valley Reservoir Campground
    7422 Rock Creek Rd
    Copperopolis, Calif. 95250
    (209) 785-7787

    * New racers, if you’re following a gps unit DO NOT take Milton Rd as it will probably suggest. Take HW4 up the hill to Copperopolis and then make a left onto Rock Creek Rd. Your vehicle suspension will love you for it.

    Pits / Camping / Site fees -
Beach Access is looking good but at the present moment there is more of it to the left of the flag dock than the right. For that reason the start line will be established to the right side of the dock.
Camping on the spillway is available – as is a ton of real estate for beach pits. Please review the attached diagrams for available pitting and camping set ups – and please keep in mind for all 2013 djsa races every pit must now have at least one working fire extinguisher immediately accessible.

Camping will be allowed in the upper parking lot for this event only. Camping in the upper lot will be on a first come first served basis. I will be onsite early Friday with Stan and Rick to start setting up. I will appoint all upper camp slots as people arrive on Friday. Racers wanting to camp in the lower camp sites along the creek can call on site manager Rod for reservations. Attempting to get a whole lot of race rigs into limited space on the spillway is never an easy task, but with everyone’s cooperation we’ll be able to make it happen.

Please follow these instructions for all camping at this event.
    1) If you want to camp in the lower creek side sites behind the store call Rod for reservations.
    2) If you want to camp on the spillway – EMAIL ME with the type and length of your rig.
    3) If you want to camp in the upper lot area – EMAIL ME with the type and length of your rig,

    * Please note, the first 2 table area sites next to the launch ramp will not be available because the equipment trailer and Outlaw Caf?® will be positioned there.

Overnight camping is $20 a nite plus $5 per ski per day.
(racers running multiple classes pay for 1 ski)

Day use is $10 a day plus $5 per ski per day.
(racers running multiple classes pay for 1 ski)

Spectators / families / friends - $10 per veh per day.

Dogs are $5 per dog per day.

    Pit Vehicles –
Pit vehicles are allowed only for launching, or transportation within the event area.
Operators must be 14 years of age, and speed at all times is restricted to 5 mph.
They are not for 4 wheeling trips on the adjacent property, and they are not to be operated recklessly. If you want to see this added benefit stay around for all those trips up to the store or the showers – please respect this privilege given to us.

    Course –
    * The course runs counter clockwise.
    * Rubber Band Starts / Beach starts with holder or self held.
    *
Holders must have helmet, eye protection, pfd, and footwear – no exceptions.
    *
Standups and X2’s – engines running.
    * Sport Sit runabouts – engines running.

    * Sprint and SCXP sitdowns – dead engine lanyard in hand – racer at the back of the ski.
    *
Any racer using a cheater lanyard not attached to their person will be DQ’d and docked 50
series points. Repeated violations will result in suspension from the series. Please race like pros
and don’t put me in a bad position
    * Split start leading into a left turn sweeper.
    * Red buoys are Right turns
    * Yellow buoys are Left turns
    * The start is a red lane - yellow lane split.
    * There is 1 additional side by side split.
    * Blue buoys designate the start of a split.
    *
White buoys designate the end of a split back into a single lane.
    R
ace smart and go around the buoys without hitting them – and avoid becoming a regular
member of the walk of shame club!

    Start Positions ~
The “pre race - reg race for start positions is now in effect. Those who pre-enter get first line picks. Racers will choose start position on the line for heat-1 based on the order of pre-entries received, so start emailing me your complete entry forms and I’ll post the start rosters as they develop. (New racers will be placed on the line as to where it is safe for them to start)

    Penalty Buoys –
The penalty “walk of shame” buoys will be in effect and must be taken at NO WAKE SPEED from the first one to the second one, and only then – can you re-enter the course at race speed if NO OTHER RACERS ARE WITHIN 100 Ft.
Standups take the walk at no wake speed kneeling in the tray.
Sitdowns take the walk at no wake speed – which means without making a wake!!

Please remember the 3 simple rules we have –
    * The mandatory 1 ski length safe zone – lead ski has the right of way
    * The 100 ft yield rule
    * And no passing or scoring in a yellow flag corner.
The Team Orange safety team will be yielded to at all times whenever they are working a yellow flag incident. If you are unclear as to the safety rules we run, they are all outlined at www.diablojsa.com Knowing them in advance will keep you from being DQ’d in a race, and in a point series that’s not what you want to see happen.
Call or email me if you are unclear about the rules.

    Junior Racer Time Trials -
    J
uniors are being allowed to run point series time trials at select venues on the calendar.
On Sunday we will be holding the 1st round of the DJSA 2013 Junior Racer Time Trials competition. Ages are 7 to 17 years of age divided into 2 age groups.
Ages 7 to 12 run Junior B’s and 12 to 17 run Junior A’s depending on ability.
All junior racers must compete on 850 or under standup skis.
All juniors must register on race day accompanied by their parents.
Entry fee for the juniors is $25
All juniors must have proof of medical coverage to be presented by parents upon request at registration.

Juniors will run time trial practice first thing Sunday morning.
Immediately following practice they will run against the stopwatch for series points.
Following that all juniors will be paired up by times for 1 on 1 match racing.

Closed Course entry fees per day -
    X2 and 650 stands - $50

    750 and under stands - $40
    All other classes – $60
Additional classes $20 each (max 3 classes in one day per racer)

ALL entries on site on race days are $80 regardless of class.

Advance payment via paypal helps me out and speeds things up on race day, but they are not as crucial as the entry forms!!! I need an entry form with all the boxes checked off for each class you are running. Please send me the current and complete entry form you have stored on your computer with all your current sponsors and correct ski info and race number on it. Email notes of intent will be accepted only from those who have 2013 entry forms on file. As of now there are only 5. Please take a minute and send me a form so I can print them out.

This is a 2 day event.
Rec entries or emails of intent should reflect if you are running Sat, Sun, or both days.

    Please make sure you have…
A minimum of 10" or larger HIGHLY VISIBLE race numbers are required on every ski.
(bigger is better!) If a race number is duplicated - one racer will add initial of last name
All Skis MUST HAVE a tow loop attached to the bow
No numbers - no tow loop - no racing – no exceptions!
Its your responsibility to make sure you have readable numbers on your ski - not the scorekeepers!

    Scoring Reminder -
The DJSA closed course points scale mirrors the IJSBA points scale however our points do not apply towards IJSBA or APBA race events. DJSA points apply only to the DJSA series.

If 4 or less skis in a class - points start at 2rd place value,
3 skis start at 3rd place value,
2 skis start at 4th place value.

Please remember at all times -
    * One Ski length safe zone rule in effect at all times
    * 100 ft yield rule in effect at all times
    * Penalty buoys will be in place - NO CIRCLEING BACK TO MAKE UP BUOYS!
    * Reckless or negligent racing are grounds for leaving early and/or facing suspension from the series.
    * Unsportsmanlike conduct of any kind, on or off the water, is an invite to leave early and/or face suspension from the series.
    * No alcohol permitted until the END of the race day.
    * All racers must be 18 years of age unless accepted into djsa internship program
    * All racers must have proof of current medical insurance available.
    * Please observe the NO WAKE zone when transiting from pit beach to the startline.
    * No fueling on the water without fuel pads or you will have to pull your ski from the water.

I will have fuel pads available at the riders meeting and on the flag dock. Those not following this simple request will probably be asked to spectate the rest of the day…

Racing hard and racing fast will always have my admiration, and although winning is cool, winning doesn’t always make someone a winner. Racing clean, and racing safe while watching out for your fellow brother and sister on the race course is what makes you a winner - and in turn you’ll always have my sincere respect and these race series will continue.

Course diagram is posted below and on diablojsa.com.
Please become familiar with it before race day.
As always thanks for your support – and your interest!

Call or email me with any questions.

I look forward to seeing you all at SSVR, and now I get to say my 3 favorite words -
    "Lets Race Outlaws!"

            Q & A about Salt Springs....

            ARE CAMPFIRES ALLOWED -
After spending a whole lot of time on the phone with the Copperopolis and Cal Fire stations telling them how responsible you all are - the surprising answer was YES. Even got cleared for a Zernik Fire, but NO EXPLOSIVE DEVICES of any kind. All it takes is for one resident across the lake to make one phone call to the FD or SO and then we're screwed. Please refer to the updated djsa pit requirement that each pit must have at least 1 working fire extinguisher available for immediate use!
("I didn't know isn't going to work as an excuse guys")

CAN PIT VEHICLES BE DRIVEN OVER OR THROUGH CAMPFIRES -
No. Any questions, refer to the pit vehicle guidelines in the race notice.
("I didn't know isn't going to work as an excuse guys")

DOES JIM APPRECIATE ALL THE PAY PAL PAYMENTS COMING IN -
Yes he does, but he REALLY appreciates having completely filled out entry forms even more!!! < thats a hint.... please get me your entry forms in so that I can get them printed out before I leave for the lake.

WHEN DOES THE PRE-ENTER PERIOD END -
Thursday night at midnight. If I don't have an entry form for you, or an email of intent with your name, class, ski make, and race number, entry fees are $80 a day for every class instead of the discounted rates listed on the entry forms and pre race notices.

DOES JIM APPRECIATE GETTING BLOWN OFF BY HAVING SOMEONE SNEAK IN A PAYPAL PAYMENT ON FRIDAY NIGHT AFTER HE RESPECTFULLY ASKED RACERS TO PRE-ENTER BY MIDNIGHT ON THURSDAY-
            No.

DO INCOMPLETE ENTRY FORMS TAKE AWAY FROM OUR RACE TIME ON THE WATER -
Yes, and your attention to detail is greatly appreciated. If I ask for the name of an emergency contact its for a reason. If I ask for that persons relationship to you its for a reason. If I ask for your CDL number its for a reason. Help me out here guys!

            CAN CAMPSITES BE RESERVED -
No. The campsites in the back creek area on the other side of the dam can be reserved by calling Rod at SSVR at the number listed on the race notice. All other sites on the upper lot are FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. There are a handful of sites that WILL NOT be available regardless of how early you arrive. The majority of the table sites adjacent to the launch ramp along the chain link fence WILL BE USED BY STAFF.

The Race trailer and motorhome are going in the first slot. Announcing will be set in that corner area so please keep it clear.

Schrocks rig is going in behind that so the Outlaw Cafe can be easily accessed by everyone.

Robbie Halls camper will take up the last slot before the small ramp.

Tate's rig is going in the first slot on the other side of the small ramp, and

Jason Wards rig will be behind Tate.

Aside from squeezing in some tents for safety and scoring staff - everything else is fair game in the upper lot and the entire spillway area is open as well...

I was going to try and regulate most the camping, but a sign up simply isn't going to work for this. I will be arriving friday morning, but for those of you sneaking in early to get a good spot, PLEASE keep in mind we are going to have alot of rigs pulling in to a space with limited parking. What I dig most about you guys is how you always help each other out. PLEASE HELP EACH OTHER OUT getting set up so that I can concentrate on pulling off 55 heats of racing over 2 days. The name of the game here is going to be "cramming and jamming". You guys always work miracles wherever we go, and I am asking for your help in pulling one off here!

            IS NIGHT RIDING ALLOWED -
Not in any way, shape, or form, and I sincerely appreciate your joining me in making a good impression with a new owner.

WHY ARE THE PAY PAL LINKS ONLY FOR ONE DAY -
Because of the various rates for several different classes, I couldn't list a set of links for one day or the other, and then another set for those racing both days. If you're only racing one day, only make one transaction. If you're racing both days simply complete 2 transactions. (Jill is working on a credit card reader for us that will be set up on the IPAD you guys all gave me, but until thats up and running - keep it simple. If you're running X-2's both days just make 2 transactions clicking the X-2 link and so on...)

            ARE DOGS ALLOWED -
Yes. $5 per dog per day. If everyone picks up after their 4-legged partners thats a fee we can probably make disappear in the future but since we don't pay the lease, insurance, or maintenance costs at the site, its something we have to roll with for now...

ARE RED BUOYS RIGHT TURNS -
            Yes.

ARE YELLOW BUOYS LEFT TURNS -
            Yes

ARE RED BUOYS REALLY RIGHT TURNS -
            Yes! Really. Seriously.

DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO CHECK IN AT THE STORE WHEN THEY ARRIVE -
Yes, even all staff. All staff members - your name is on the staff list. Just give Rod your name and he'll check you off on the list.

IS IT GOING TO BE A GREAT SEASON OPENER -
            Yes!!!

            See you all there -

CAN PIT VEHICLES BE DRIVEN OVER OR THROUGH CAMPFIRES -
No. Any questions, refer to the pit vehicle guidelines in the race notice.
("I didn't know isn't going to work as an excuse guys)

I know this had to be said but I still almost fell out of my chair laughing.

                      Karty,

The $1100.00 7 hour brake job at Les Schwab set me back in more ways than one, but after making one last stop at 9am this morning to pick something up - we expect to leave town no later than 10am. Should be rolling in by 1130 or noon at the latest. I know EVERYONE paid extra attention to pit notice parking notice I posted, but IT WOULD GREATLY EXPEDITE SETTING UP - if that alley of sites next to the tables was wide open when we arrived.

Taking time to watch people move to a proper area isn't going to help the setup cause. If you can, please help direct people to the appropriate areas and keep that 1st row clear. We'll get there as soon as we can. If there are no interuptions from a few who "didn't get the memo" some of you guys might even get some practice in on the actual course!!

See you in a few hours - I'll bring bug spray in exchange for you being the parking police!

AND TO ALL WHO PRE-ENTERED BY MIDNITE AS I ASKED YOU TO DO - I can't thank you enough. If we keep working together like this to make things easier for the staff and the racers - you guys just might be stuck with me longer than you think!!!

                      See you all soon -

                              TS,

You missed a good one buddy.... but -
I just got home with a sore back, a sore body, and red eyes, just in time to catch 2 hours sleep before having to jet into work. I will TRY to start going over the score sheets tonight if I can, but I will at least post the unofficial results everyone got yesterday.

                              zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
