We are going to do spring break in Destin Florida. We are driving and considering bringing our skis down. Would it be worth us bringing? What cool trips or places to ride are there? 3 kids but only adults will be driving. Let me know as I will need to grab them from our lake condo. I would love to take a nice ride to a beach, see dolphins, and do a nice ride to a restaurant for a late lunch. Thanks in advance.

There is some awesome riding there.

    launch out of Joes Buyou.
crab island is always nice. Right around the corner
Can go just out the pass and around the jetty and normally see dolphins.
a few locations off the main bay as well.

Ride over to fort Walton and run the inter coastal fo Navarre To Juana's for lunch if you want a good ride. And plenty of beaches/ island to stop and play in or hang out.

Are you comfortable riding in big water? Depending on wind direction and wind strength/duration the wave heights can be significant out in the Gulf, out beyond the protected sound and bay areas.

Some areas around Destin can be very busy with watercraft on the weekends. Quieter during the work week but probably still kinda busy during March Break season.

Right now the water in Santa Rosa Sound is not busy at all, just a few PWC, and rather cool weather and strong winds many days.

What is your cruise range round trip on a tank of fuel?

Private Message me if you want to meet up

Thanks for the reply. I would love to meet up and have a guide one of the days. Cruising we can get about 100 miles out of a tank with a little left over. That is running about 25mph. Completely fine with rough water for short runs but I do not want to be in rough water for an hour straight. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks-Mike

Which watercraft would you be using?

Refueling on the water, seems to be mostly 89 octane around here. I normally use 91 but will fill with 93 on the trailer at roadside gas station if I expect to need refueling with 89 on the water part way through the day, so the average octane stays close to 91, give or take.

There are some nice stretches of water and beaches west of Destin, running towards Navarre area. No fuel in these areas.

Our GP1800 SVHO can travel the full length and back on one tank. Low fuel warning sometimes as we get back near our launch ramp. Typical cruise speeds for us are 40-50mph but slower is OK of course, especially in the prettiest places.

PM me on here before you drive down. I am west of Navarre

Right at crab trap is last fuel for fort Walton. And used to be the last till Pensacola. But you can buy fuel on Navarre now. Just after the bridge on right.

Well worth bring the skis with you when visiting Destin. Few launch's in the area, and some in Fort Walton area as well. We use Joe's Bayou Boat Ramp in Destin, Destin Marina @7 Calhoun Ave, Destin, FL 32541, Ross Marler Park in Okaloosa Island, Florida, Liza Jackson Park @ 338 Miracle Strip Pkwy SW, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548 just to name a few. Great places to eat along the Destin Harbor Boardwalk. We love to stop in at Boshamps Seafood and Oyster House it has beach access for the skis, also the The Gulf restaurant in Okaloosa Island Florida it also has beach front access for the skis along the inter-coastal waterway heading to Fort Walton. The list goes on and on. You can also PM me or give me a call or text if you have any questions on where to stay, eat, ride or hangout. We spend several weeks in Destin, Fort Walton, Pensacola Florida every year. We also attend the Destin Jetski poker run thats been put on the pass few years in the area.

I to travel to Destin/ Fort Walton many times a year. Normally with boats untill recently. Possible larger boat purchase to keep there soon. When is the Destin ski poker run? I go to emerald coast one, and bowlegs, and 1-2 other embers yearly.

Mittens, can’t say I blame you for spending as much time as you can in Destin/ Fort Walton area. We can’t seem to get enough of the area either. It’s only about a 3 1/2hr drive for us or 10+ by ski which we have done already as well! The jetski poker run has been different dates that pass 3 years. First time we attend (2017) was late July, next two year was in September believe the weekend after Labor Day. We also ride the fresh water springs sometimes when we’re in the area as well.

I am 6 hours north Destin. So we make trips often. Used to trailer my 34 Baja and marina and island hop too. Great area.

One tends to be thirsty and one is (kinda) fuel efficient

Bigger fuel tank on the Ultra so similar cruise ranges?
