looking to purchase a helmet...

Hello everyone, since I got my rxpx I have been upgrading my gear that I wear on the water. I bought the 100mph Jet Pilot life jacket, Jet Pilot boots, and a nice pair of Slippery riding shorts with the built in neoprene lining. When riding my old GTI I just wore a regular life jacket, but with the power and speeds now I've been upgrading my stuff to be safe.

Now I'm looking at helmets, specifically ones that are DOT or SNELL approved. I'm aware of Jettribe, Fly Racing, and Blowsion that offer helmets specifically for jet skiing. But I see many riders from the top pros to average joes wearing moto x helmets from brands like bell, shoei, and others.

So my question is do I really need a helmet that is for jet skiing? It seems to me that as long as they're approved that they would be safe and be alright for the water. After reading various item descriptions it seems like they all feature the same materials and ways of venting.

I know the jet ski specific helmets are suppsoed to drain well and not absorb water and become heavy, but unless it's a rough day and I get soaked or fall off I don't see myself getting that wet to have to worry about that.

What do you guys wear/recommend? thanks for reading.

I wear a Fox Moto helmet. But I removed the visor as the wind was catching it and moving my head around, plus if I went into the drink, it won't be there to be caught by the water. I live in Florida and will wear it even in the summertime. Keeps me from getting sunburned and I really don't overheat. Because of the snug fit, I really don't have much water get into the helmet and I can ride pretty aggressive in the ocean and such. A little trick when wearing a helmet for keeping hydrated: I keep a wearable water camel in my storage compartment. Holds a lot of water and it has tube sticking out to drink from. Now I don't have to contort just to get a drink of water.

A friend has the Jettribe helmet and it's basically a very light moto helmet. And I mean LIGHT! That would be the big benefit to paying all that extra money. I think it's vented for cooling too. That would be the only differences between that and my 100 dollar brain bucket. I rinse mine off after a salt run and I'm fine. A tiny bit of corrosion on a couple of metal parts and the inside is just like new, even after a year of salt riding.

yeah I've heard the jettribe helmet is really light compared to moto x helmets. I've never been into moto x so I don't know much about them but are they light enough that your neck doesn't get fatigued from wearing one for a while?

Mine isn't too bad. Doesn't really bother me. One day I'd like the JT, because it is so light, but my current helmet isn't so bad that I would need to move such a purchase up the priority ladder.
