Womens 100 MPH PFD.

I've been trying to get my GF a 100 MPH rated PFD, when we both ride we seldom go all out, however reaching 50mph is extremely easy in most PWC's today, so I dont like the idea of testing a PFD at its limits.

Being very happy with my Jetpilot Apex Nylon S/E I sought out to but a womens specific vest from JetPilot. I looked all over and after reading the same description for the womens Apex Nylon Vest, and considering it has the same name as the 100 mph mens vest I got that directly from the Jetpilot online store. Which btw is very slow.

I actually got this one, despite the fact that I didnt like the look for the rating. Surprise, surprise, when I recieve it and look at the inside its rated to 50MPH.

I called them and they confirmed they had made a mistake on the Website and Catalogs. I'm pissed cause ordering from Amazon takes 2 days, ordering from Jetpilot took around a week and a half and I didnt get what I wanted, so in the end they accepted to return it free of cost.

They already removed the information from the website, however I took a screenshot before since I thought that could happen.

Now, are there any womens type III 100 mph pfds out there? I cant find any and if there are none I'll cut my losses and keep this one, if I can find one then I'll return this one.

My wife and i wear these--- Mustang MV4600. 100mph rated. Mustang is the vest supplier to the US and Canadian Coast Guards and the Special Ops forces--- excellent quality. It has a collar to help protect your neck when you come off the ski.
We couldn't find any 100mph vests that weren't "commercial" looking--- these aren't bad. Actually very comfortable.

Mustang has discontinued them because they're more of a "recreational" vest and their market is primarily commercial--- they still make a similar vest with two front pockets called the MV5600 that is a little more $$.

Here is a different link for same type of vests. At 100 MPH rating the styling is pretty much the same and not necessarily fashionable. If you ever take a dive above 60 mph you can care less about pretty colors and styling though
I have the MV4600 and it's comfortable, I believe they are discontinued but there are leftovers all over the net.

The MV5600 is an SAR vest or comes in black ops style. Stearns has something in red on the same page, not sure on the speed rating.

I have a stock VXS, so I cant go over 70 for sure.

My concern was that 50 mph, which is a easily reachable speed is the tested limit for the PFD, it's nice to have an extra safety cushion, even if you are going just 45.

Just in the same way I never go 100 mph, I know that if I go down at 60 - 70 of all the things that can potentially go wrong, my PFD falling apart wont be one. Or at least the probability of it happening is significantly less.

For now I kept the JetPilot Vest mentioned in the original post, the construction looks very good and will suffice for time being to just go cruising about.

If we ever do a Bimini Run or similar i'd probably go with Lifeline or Mustang vests.

Well, I would not say it would never happen, but I think that rarely does a well made 50mph PFD actually fail and come apart. Even during ejections at speeds well above 50mph.

If there was a 70 mph rating level, I suspect that most if not all the 50mph vests would still meet the test.

I would look at this as the manufacturer needs the PFD to beat the test, every time, to achieve the rating. So it is probably built to handle much more than the exact calculated stress of whatever the 50mph test is.

Thanks for the link i am glad i read this post i am currently wearing the Yamaha vest and haven't even looked at the speed rating on it and as soon as i get off this laptop i am going to check it. I been hitting 88 mph on my triple piper and never gave a thought of my Yamaha jacket shredding in a fall. I do know its good or has been good for over 70 when i came off after crossing a small wake that kicked the rear left hand side of the ski up which tossed me over the right hand front of the ski and somehow gave me a boxers fracture to my right hand.
I like the looks of the vest they have pictured and if anyone else has any pics of their high speed vest it would be nice to see what others are wearing.
