Well, I learned something: don't put the EPIRB on the shoulder of your PFD if you're gonna be riding in the rough. I felt it all the way across and now that I wake up on my first day in the Bahamas I find a nice bruise. But, hey! I made it.

Did you buy an EPIRB or a PLB?

If for some reason you got separated from your ski, you'd be glad it was there! Can you strap or zip tie it to one of the PFD straps that go around your torso?

ACR has introduced a small and floatant PLB. I just bought one as they have a Fall promotion of $50 or $210 of safety gear which I chose the safety gear for the rebate.

It is very light and small...I doubt you had that if you had bruise on your shoulder. You must have had the bigger ones.

Yes, it is the 375. And I did relocate it to the straps. Remember: this was a very bumpy trip.

It was Labor Day weekend. Keep checking on this board, though--people are doing it all the time. And if you check in with the "SoFlaRiders" I know they have some folks that do it all the time. Maybe you can tag along with them if you can't wait until next year...

What are the dates - At the very end, the 27th-30th? What area do they typically launch from? I was recently checking out their site & thinking of joining. This would be a great trip to start with!

I highly recommend it! Mave and them gave us a tip when we met them in the Bahamas: We had launched out of Crandon Park Marina and had to pay about $42 to park for 3 days. Mave told us it was cheaper and better to launch from Hallandale.

Overall, the biggest expense is fuel. Getting to the launch and then fueling the skis. At $6 or so per gallon in Bimini, it was quite the credit card experience!

At 54 years old and being fat and out of shape, I just had to do it to prove that I could. I did! The feeling of accomplishment is fantastic. But then some 64 year old woman went and swam twice the distance and took the spotlight clean away from me. Oh, well. Just kidding! I'm in awe of her.
