Jettribe PWC Helmet, goggles, and 100 MPH rated side entry vests

My brother in law, 1tommygunner1927 and myself got ourselves Jettribe PWC helmets, goggles, race collar, and 100 MPG speed rated vests.

We have been running 82-83 mph for awhile now and felt we needed much better protection, especially when riding alone.

The helmet is EXTREMELY light weight and very comfortable! Wearing the goggles and helmet allow you to hear much better without all the wind noise. The goggles are great for keeping high speed bugs and water off your face and out of your eyes.

As you can see in the pics the helmet is specific for this sport with drains and the inner liner is made to snap out for drying and cleaning.

The vests are constructed much stronger than your normal type III PFD and are comfortable for all day wear.

Jettribe told me that in the Spring of 2014 they are hoping to release another version of the helmet that is DOT approved.

How does the vest fit with respect to more conventional neoprene style vests?

I have the Seadoo neoprene vest which feels heavy and bulky compare to the Jettribe vests. These are more comfortable and easy to cinch up for a nice snug fit. The stitching and buckles are obviously made for higher speeds, and these are NOT coming apart upon an impact.

Glad to see you guys finally wearing some safety equipment.
I wear something similar on my rides. And yes, I now wear a helmet-but the one I bought was DOT approved, and from a different company, but designed for PWC racing.

Tell me, do you find the Jettribe Neck Collar, when attached to the rear of the vest with the velcro, stays on one place? Or, does it turn when you turn your head-then stay turned?(like in your last picture) And, at speed, does it tend to move back?(mine did)

Sending mine back.....very poor design, IMHO. I rode once with it yesterday-and do NOT feel it will protect me much if I decide to go swimming. I also have the RS-16 vest, which is made for the Collar.

Also, years ago when I was drag racing motorcycles, I used to wear a Simpson neck brace(the one's designed for car guys). Loved that thing. But, it slowly rotted away in my garage a long time ago. May look into getting one of those-as I like the idea of protecting my neck. But the Jettribe Collar is NOT for me....not enough rear cervical protection, and it just moves around too much.

EDIT: also be aware that to particpate in an IJSBA Sanctioned event, the helmet must be DOT approved.
I like the Jettribe Carbon Fiber helmet-super light weight, and looks great. I hope they can get that DOT certified, as that thing is the lightest helmet I've ever held in hands.
My helmet is much heavier than that one. But, with the sun visor on my helmet, the wind actually lifts the helmet slightly, so I don't feel the weight of it at all.

Yes the collar does move around a bit, but I honestly didn't notice it till you pointed it out. I do think it could be a little bigger to function correctly.

I also took the visor off as it tended to get caught in the wind and would move on its hinges. I like the helmet much better without the visor.

You are correct about the racing and DOT stuff but, for my needs I don't race or care about the DOT certification.

I am a 56 year old retired fighter pilot and don't need to bust my ass coming off at high speed. SO FAR, knock on lots of wood, I have yet to come off my ski at speed. But if I ever do…... I want some protection…..what I have had before was nothing!

I believe with the speeds that we have these big ass 3 seater couches running, you gotta protect yourself a little more than just a Type III PFD.

Hello, if I may chime in ... I am 57 yrs old and enter IJSBA CC racing this year ... my ski can hit speeds near 70 GPS ... the only time I have ever been thrown from the ski is in actual races when my ski has hooked a high-speed turn ... but more like 40 to 50 mph. I do wear an EVA neck brace with my helmet and I must admit I really am glad I do. We had a rider take a flight and broke 3 vertibrea in his neck while wearing his neck brace ... however, his doctor said with out it he would have severed his neck & or spinal cord. I believe all riders who now run speed runs @ "break-neck" speeds should opt for a neck brace & helmet always !

Both excellent points. That neck brace(jettribe) may not be the best out there-but, it's way better than no neck brace.
23 years of flying helicopters(retired), mostly medevac, I've seen far too many people with critical neck injuries that could have been prevented. The difference sometimes is just a millimeter or two!!!

I ride a lot by myself, and am no speed demon-but, I want to make sure if I ever get tossed, that I've taken every precaution to make sure I don't get my dumba$$ knocked out...and possibly drown!!! That would really suck.

Also-it's kind of a numbers game. The more hours/years you ride, the more chance you have of getting pitched off. I've only ever been thrown at about 60mph, while trying to spin a sliding 180 degree turn, on an RXT years ago. Didn't get hurt-much.

But, I also get to ride some "serious hardware" here in Lake Havasu-we're talking well into the 80+mph range, on boats I normally don't ride a lot. So, at my age, I'm not taking any chances!!! Old bones take a long time to heal.
I love my helmet-it has a visor that's vented perfectly-not too much lift or drag, and a face shield that you can ride with open or closed, with goggles.
I got the Fly Trekker DS, for $125 shipped, and it fits great. Same sizing as Shoei-so a large on one of those would fit the same-they run a bit small, and, they're a bit heavy. But, like I said, the visor creates just the right amount of lift to reduce the weight of the helmet to next to nothing. Other than that-there's no real drag or pull from the helmet. And with the shield, and goggles, if you get splashed, just open the shield. I have mine coated with Rain-X-so I just turn my head to the side, and the water runs right off.
OH, almost forgot the best part!! Perfect spot on the visor to mount the Go Pro Camera!!!!

Good thread JP I myself use the Mustang vest it has a small built in neck collar im done chasing speed but still travel close to 76. I have a helmet but rarely use it. I just cant get over the bucket effect during a yard sale. As mentioned old bones heel slow.. So as a bus driver what was your fav? F4=seadoo F16=GPR B1=SUV LOL. I spent 10 years flight line/flight test at P42 and Eddies. Miss them days an air show every day..

Beerdart you crack me up! Fav……I flew the F-16 from 1982-2002, 3400 hours, 5 combat tours, Bosnia x 2, Iraq x 2, and Afghanistan right after 9/11. We took out a LOT of bad guys and targets, bla, bla, bla. Currently fly for AA, B-737 all over US, Mexico, Caribbean, and Latin America.

Once a fighter jock always one….you know the saying "Speed is Life", that is why I have to have a badass ski to Turn and Burn.

I am VERY Proud of ALL of our Service men and women! The freedom we all take for granted came at a great price and allows us to play with these type of toys!

Of course I was always jealous of the fighter jet jocks......BUT, I wouldn't trade my experience for anything. Try night, IFR, in the Gulf, shooting an approach to a platform, 150' in the air, at 100ft and 1/4 viz. OH, and no auto-pilot!!! Learn to make love to your radar...for it will save you from hitting all things metal

Good thread. There was one started way back about the vests(mustang-etc), but at the time, I really didn't practice what I preached, so I didn't participate much. Now, I do-with the speed rated vest, neck collar(different make/model coming soon), helmet, wetsuit, etc.

I just wish some of you Drag Racers would wear the Mustang, and a good helmet. Along with those "ballistic" shorts. It scares me to watch a guy go 90+ mph, with just shorts, flip/flops, and a motorcycle helmet-that isn't even buckled!!!

Yea, I know-small steps. At least they're wearing helmets!!

I really like the helmet; it's light & fits snugly, as it should. I'm not sure if I will use it with or without the visor, but it sure comes in handy when heading into the sun early morning or late afternoon! The goggles provide excellent coverage and don't fog up. The vest fits snugly as well. The race collar is thick enough to allow some tilting of the head so one can lean the head back a little when making a hard turn & looking where you want to go.
